Student Success Stories

Our extracurricular programme has a proven track record of nurturing impressive talent.

In sports, our students regularly achieve at the highest levels. One current pupil helped his U18 baseball team win the Catalan Championship, competed in adult leagues, and was selected for the Hungarian national team, winning the U18 European Championship. Other students have gone on to professional football careers and received sports scholarships at universities in the United States.

Our students also excel creatively. A recent winner of the Inspired STE(A)M Award, for her artwork 'The Human', was selected from hundreds of submissions for an official online exhibition, reflecting BCG’s commitment to fostering creativity alongside academic and sporting excellence.

A Programme Designed for Every Child

Extracurricular activities at our school are adapted to the needs of different age groups. Early Years children enjoy calmer, nurturing sessions tailored to shorter attention spans and foundational motor skills, while Primary pupils experience broader opportunities to join competitive teams and develop independence. In Secondary, students enjoy a wide range of sports and artistic opportunities. They also participate in activities that support university applications, personal interests, and potential career ambitions, including leadership roles, service opportunities, and advanced creative and STEM projects.

Across all stages, the programme provides structured progression pathways—whether a pupil is building skills in a recreational activity or advancing towards competitive performance levels. Our commitment to personalisation ensures that every child can explore freely and discover talents that benefit them for life.

Sports

Physical education and sports form one of our three educational pillars, with activities designed to promote fitness, long-term healthy habits, endurance, discipline, teamwork, and personal achievement. Our individual and team sports programme caters for all ability levels, from recreational participation to competitive excellence.

Team sports like football, volleyball, and basketball take place in our state-of-the-art sports facilities on campus. All sports teams participate in inter-school and BISA tournaments, providing opportunities to compete against other international schools across Barcelona.

Individual sports include indoor climbing, judo, rhythmic gymnastics, martial arts, and skateboarding. Each activity focuses on personal growth, discipline, and the development of both physical and mental fortitude.

Our sports programme is led by highly experienced coaches and instructors, including Mugendo instructors for martial arts and BCG alumni athletes mentoring students across various activities. Exceptional partnerships further enrich the programme, providing pupils with access to industry-leading expertise.

Through Humaes Sport Group, the BCG Basketball Team benefits from professional-level coaching, performance monitoring, and structured competitive development, while younger footballers receive age-appropriate training with a strong technical foundation.

Beyond the school sports facilities, our partnership with Sharma Climbing Gavà, led by world-renowned professional climber Chris Sharma, gives students access to one of Europe’s top climbing facilities. Students progress through a structured development model that builds resilience, focus, and technical mastery across beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.

Arts

Creative expression is at the heart of BCG’s holistic educational approach. Students benefit from dedicated facilities that help them develop their talents, including an art suite, drama and music studios with individual practice rooms, and a performance auditorium. Our arts programme nurtures creativity, technical skills, and cultural understanding across all age groups, from Nursery through Sixth Form.

Beyond school productions, performances, recitals, and exhibitions, opportunities to enhance our students’ artistic growth include partnerships with visiting artists, coaches, and musicians.

Primary pupils engage in Visual Arts extracurricular lessons through Art Attack, exploring crafts and creative techniques inspired by Spanish and British cultural themes. Projects range from single-session activities to extended multi-week pieces, allowing children to develop skills progressively while expressing individual creativity.

Dance is a core element of our performing arts programme. Students progress through Ballet (Nursery–Year 5), Mini Dance, and Dance Fusion (Year 4–Year 9), which blend classical and contemporary styles. Regular performances, end-of-year shows, and interschool showcases help students build confidence, stage presence, and collaborative skills.

Students receive individual music tuition and ensemble opportunities from expert teachers in guitar, piano, violin, drums, and singing in dedicated music studios. Additional offerings include music therapy, fostering emotional wellbeing alongside musical development. Regular recitals and ensemble performances provide platforms to share achievements with the school community.

STEM

Our extracurricular STEM programme combines traditional subjects with cutting-edge technology, preparing pupils for careers in fast-paced, ever-evolving industries. Every activity is designed to develop logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and collaborative approaches to intricate challenges, helping students become self-reliant, adaptable learners.

Our STEM activities emphasise real-world applications, inventive thinking, and systematic problem-solving. Pupils develop transferable skills valuable for all subject areas and career paths, but notably in engineering, scientific research, technology innovation, data analysis, and design thinking roles.

Technology & Coding

Mine Coders introduces coding concepts through Minecraft Education Edition, making programming accessible and engaging for pupils from Year 2 to Year 7. Age-appropriate challenges progress from basic concepts to complex automation and game design, nurturing logical thinking, creativity, and computational problem-solving — key foundations for careers in software development, game design, AI, and cybersecurity.

Mini Tech LEGO sessions for our youngest learners use building blocks to introduce STEAM concepts in a playful, hands-on approach. Pupils develop scientific thinking, observation skills, collaboration, and innovation—essential for future roles in engineering, robotics, architecture, and applied sciences.

Personal Development

Beyond subject-specific knowledge, our extracurricular programme focuses on challenging students to develop character, resilience, and practical skills for life beyond school.

MyGrandChef cooking programme teaches practical culinary skills for life while fostering teamwork in preparing meals together. It also promotes cultural awareness of different cuisines, and develops understanding of nutrition, healthy eating, and sustainability—skills relevant for careers in hospitality, culinary arts, nutrition, and sustainable food industries.

Chess Club encourages strategic thinking, patience, analytical reasoning, and sportsmanship, cultivating skills useful in mathematics, engineering, law, data analysis, finance, and careers where problem-solving is key.

Our programme recognises the importance of mental and emotional wellbeing alongside physical and academic development. Activities such as martial arts combine physical fitness with mindfulness, self-discipline, and focus, while yoga promotes balance, flexibility, and mental resilience. Creative outlets provide emotional expression and stress relief. These practices support performance in leadership roles, high-pressure professions, and careers requiring focus, organisation, and emotional intelligence.

Study clubs provide structured environments to develop good study habits, time management, and self-directed learning, supporting academic success and preparing pupils for higher education and lifelong learning in any field.

In addition to weekly activities, students can participate in interschool tournaments, artistic showcases, and other enrichment experiences.

The programme also links with whole-school trips and residentials to expand learning outside the classroom. From city-based arts visits to international sports fixtures and outdoor adventure trips, pupils gain experiences that broaden their horizons far beyond the classroom. Recent residential trips abroad have included Rome, Normandy, and Wales, providing cultural immersion, team-building, and independence.
