Pastoral Care & Wellbeing for Lifelong Fulfilment
A truly outstanding education is one where every child feels heard, valued, and supported every step of the way. Our holistic pastoral care system promotes not only academic achievement but also emotional, social, and personal development. Through personalised attention, integrated wellbeing programmes, and opportunities tailored to each child’s strengths and interests, we prepare all pupils to reach their fullest potential.
Our graduates leave with strong self-confidence, alongside the most in-demand practical skills for future success, including financial literacy, stress and conflict management, resilience, and the ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
Our approach centres on the vital partnership between school, parents, and pupils, ensuring each child receives the individual guidance they need to thrive.
Personalised Support Across All Year Groups
Early Years Foundation Stage
Our youngest learners benefit from a nurturing environment that prioritises emotional wellbeing alongside early academic development. Class teachers provide individualised attention, helping children develop autonomy, social skills, and positive peer relationships, building the confidence to embrace new challenges.
Primary, Secondary & Sixth Form
Tutor Time
Secondary School and Sixth Form students have 25 minutes of daily personal guidance during tutor time. In Primary School, pupils benefit from one hour of weekly personal guidance with a tutor, complemented by homeroom teacher support. This dedicated time allows students to reflect, set goals, discuss their wellbeing, and receive personalised advice to boost their academic and personal development.
SEND
Our dedicated SEND Coordinator designs tailored support plans for pupils with additional learning needs.
EAL
Our English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme runs twice weekly, ensuring international pupils receive the language assistance they need to succeed.
Support Groups
In Primary, students access reinforcement groups in the Learning Hub, like the ‘Shooting Stars’ programme, to strengthen confidence and ensure smooth transitions during key academic milestones.
BCG also fosters peer support through initiatives like the Listening Project, which provides a safe space for students to discuss any concerns, and a Sixth Form mentoring programme where older students guide and assist younger learners. These programmes encourage empathy, social responsibility, and a strong sense of community across year groups.
University & Careers Counselling
Students benefit from a detailed university and careers counselling programme starting as early as Year 7. In addition, gifted and talented students in secondary school have access to our bespoke Oxbridge pathway, preparing them to access Oxford and Cambridge as well as other Russell Group universities when they graduate. Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, the UK and USA remain the most popular destinations for our students.
Tailored Programmes
Pupils can explore meditation, mindfulness, public speaking, and leadership training. These programmes cater to different learning styles and passions, helping each student develop practical skills, confidence, and leadership abilities that benefit both school life and future careers.
The Wellbeing Curriculum
Our PSHE programme equips students with vital life skills and personal development tools to confidently navigate adulthood. Delivered using the Unifrog platform, it addresses five key competencies based on the globally recognised CASEL framework: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making.
Other key elements of our programme include fostering critical thinking, a solutions-oriented mindset, and balanced development across academic, emotional, social, and personal areas. Students are supported through guided discussions, role play, and reflection, while developing healthy habits, self-care, and coping strategies.
Key PSHE & Wellbeing Topics
- Practical Life Skills: Financial literacy, effective study techniques and communication skills, essential for success in any university and career field.
- Self-Awareness & Personal Growth: Discussions on self-esteem, body image, leadership, constructive criticism help students become more confident.
- Mental and Emotional Wellbeing: Through guided discussions and activities, students explore mental health awareness, stress management, self-management, and healthy coping mechanisms.
- Physical Health and Development: Thorough education on physical health, puberty and exercise empowers students to make informed decisions about their wellbeing.
- Relationships and Social Skills: Students develop healthy relationship skills, learn about consent and respect, and gain tools for resolving conflicts and managing peer pressure.
- Social Awareness and Citizenship: Lessons on diversity, inclusion, online safety, social media and responsible decision-making prepare students to be thoughtful members of society.
Service & Sustainability
Education for Sustainable Development is integrated across the curriculum, encouraging students to engage in service projects and sustainability initiatives that benefit both the school and the wider Barcelona community. By embedding sustainability in every aspect of school life, BCG ensures students graduate as environmentally conscious, globally aware leaders, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to thrive in sustainability-focused careers and innovative industries.
The Sustainability Programme develops:
- Deep understanding of the U.N. Global Goals and environmental challenges
- Confidence and empowerment to lead change through activism and innovation
- Practical skills and preparedness for future careers in sustainability-focused industries and emerging roles in business and society, including Corporate Social Responsibility positions.
- Real-world experience through projects, competitions, and Summer School opportunities.
Fostering a Close-Knit School Community
House System
At BCG, students belong to one of four houses, forming friendships across year groups and developing school spirit through collaborative activities and friendly competition:
• Lita (blue)
• Gaudí (green)
• Dalí (yellow)
• Miró (red).
Parent Partnership
Strong family partnerships strengthen student wellbeing and learning outcomes. Parents connect with teachers and the wider school community through events, workshops, and shared experiences, including regular coffee mornings, "Meet the Teacher" sessions, sports days, concerts, art exhibitions, Christmas fairs, and graduations.
